This absolutely charming and hysterical story by a very famous childrens author and illustrator, brings to life the warm yet complicated relationship between an immigrant grandmother and her American grandson, as seen through the eyes of the grandsons American friend. Joey loves everything about his grandmother's house-the sights, the smells, the recipes, the hugs. But he also knows that it is very different from an American grandmothers home, and feels it necessary to warn his friend Eugene. Joey's loving grandmother sees no reason for the warnings. She has so much love for her Joey, that it just overflows onto Eugene, in a very funny and delightful way. I bought several copies of this book to give to my own aging friends who have memories of our European immigrant grandmothers, and want to document and preserve these memories for our grandchildren.
